6 Fun Ideas for a Socially Distant Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend is looking a little different this year. Usually, Jeff and I would be on our way to the lake or to the beach, but this year we'll be staying a little bit closer to home.

Even though we'll be staying around the house, we still want to make the weekend feel special! Here are some ideas to help make the most of Memorial Day Weekend if you are staying close to home as well!

1. Have a Backyard Cookout

When I think Memorial Day Weekend plans, I think cookout! Make sure to grab some burgers and dogs (or sub in your favorite yummy vegetarian or vegan option) to throw on the grill with the family. Set up a scrumptious spread in the yard, deck, or kitchen. And don't forget the dessert! Now is the time to get creative and make something that will bring back memories. Use this time to reminisce about past Memorial Day Weekends and which were you favorite!

2. Celebrate with Happy Hour

You know when is the best time for a cocktail? Anytime! But especially for special occasions like this! Grab your favorite bottles of wine, spirits, and have fun trying different cocktails. For a special cocktail hour, don't forget the finger foods or fondue!

Here are some of my top wine picks for the weekend (I'll live vicariously through you!):

Sparkling: Can you really get enough rose´ this time of year?

Rosé: Refreshing, Bright, Flavorful. Medium body, dry. White: LOVE a Riesling this time of year. Bright, light body, sweet with notes of citrus, strawberry, tangerine, watermelon.

Red: Gimme an easy drinker red blend any day! Easy Drinking, Jammy, Crowd Pleaser, medium bodied, slightly sweet with notes of pomegranate, red cherry, strawberry, and violet.

3. Cozy Up Under the Stars

The best part about long weekends? Staying up late and watching the stars! Now is the time to go back to those fun times as a kid when you'd lay on a blanket in your yard and look for shooting stars. Grab some warm blankets and cozy up under the stars. Can you see the Big Dipper?

4. Plan a Date Night

I don't know about you, but date nights are far and few between these days with everything going on. Now is the perfect time to take a break and focus on one another. Surprise your loved one with their favorite meal, throw on some fun songs and dance around the kitchen. It doesn't have to be elaborate for it to be special.

5. Take a Drive

I've definitely been feeling a little stir crazy these days. Now is the perfect time to take a drive along the coast, find a scenic routine, or take a spin through some beautiful neighborhoods. Taking some time out of your day to change your scenery, can make a world of difference.

6. Get Outside!

This one might be the MOST important! Go for a long (socially distant) walk or bike ride around the neighborhood. Getting some fresh air with your family and talking about the interesting things you see along the way, will help reconnect you all for a nice long weekend.
